Globe and Mail photographers have received 11 nominations in this year's Pictures of the Year awards from the News Photographers Association of Canada, more than any other news organization.
Peter Power and John Lehmann are each finalists in the top category of Photojournalist of the Year. Mr. Lehmann also received nominations in the general news, feature" and sports action categories. Mr. Power received another in "sports feature," while Kevin Van Paassen is nominated for social issues coverage. Moe Doiron was nominated for general news.
Freelancer Michelle Siu was tagged with two nominations, one in social issues and another for "picture story" for work appearing in The Globe.

"These nominations are an acknowledgement that we're covering stories in a way that touch readers and make a difference," says Moe Doiron, The Globe's photo editor. "Strong photojournalism has always been a great priority for us and getting that recognition from our peers is extremely gratifying."
The pictures were chosen from more than 1,150 images from across Canada. The awards will be handed out at a gala at the Photojournalism Conference on May 24 in Vancouver.
