One captivating image a day, the reason it was chosen and how you can shoot similar pictures.
Photo tip for April 26: The flowing line of the walkway cutting through the green grass moves the readers eye through the frame. Try looking for things that create interesting lines in your composition.
Photo tip for April 25: The combination of shooting from a low position and when the unicycle is off the ground makes for a great image. Also the composition with the girls head out of the frame gives the feeling that she is moving upwards. Try cropping out different parts of people when you compose your image.
Photo tip for April 24: The composition frames the woman and also adds scale to the image giving the reader an idea on the size of the art installation. Try adding things like people or well known objects to images to give them scale.
Photo tip for April 23: Sometimes composing your images outside of what you would normally do creates something very interesting. Here the photographer as focused in on the gymnasts hands and feet which are covering her face. This approach is something we normally don't see everyday which would also hold the readers interest.
Photo tip for April 20: Toronto-born photographer Jonathan Castellino captured this photo outside Union Station using a 35 mm film camera. He scanned the negative and converted it to black-and-white, creating a gritty image of city life. It was selected as the best photo on the theme of urban scenes. Why we chose it: There is a lot going on in this image that the reader can take time to explore. The light casts some interesting shadows on Union Station and the people in the lower left.
