The Trans-Canada Highway is closed in both directions between Revelstoke and Golden, B.C., after an avalanche near the summit of Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park.

In an 8:30 a.m. PT update, DriveBC estimated the 150 km route between Alberta and B.C. could remain closed until 2 p.m. or later.

A second DriveBC update is expected at noon. No detour is available.

Revelstoke RCMP say they are not aware of anyone trapped or injured by the avalanche.

Parks Canada shut the mountain pass to clear the road while Canadian Forces members conducted further avalanche control with explosives, according to Sgt. Jacqueline Olsen.

Avalanche control efforts following heavy snowfall and high winds early this week caused major delays along the Trans-Canada Highway on Tuesday. Armoured battalions routinely fire howitzers from mountain turrets to induce controlled snow slides along pre-mapped avalanche paths in B.C. national parks.
