BC Wine: Miguel Torres Mas La Plana Cabernet Sauvignon

Miguel Torres Mas La Plana Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Penedès, Spain $46.99

Spain, a country with the world's largest vineyard acreage, is the theme region at the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival (March 28 to April 3). Miguel Torres brought Spain into the modern age of winemaking in the 1970s with a classic 100 per cent cabernet sauvignon. Grilled beef, steak au poivre and brie are my top pairing choices for this seductive and complex cabernet. Meet Señor Torres and taste his wines at The Legacy of a Spanish Visionary on March 31 at 5 p.m. ($75, playhousewinefest.com). Available at BC Liquor Stores and private wine shops.

Kasey Wilson is food editor of Wine Access magazine and editor of Best Places Vancouver.
