Community leaders and police in Terrace, B.C., have worked quickly to resolve a problem with texting of sexually explicit images involving 10 boys.
RCMP Constable Angela Rabut says a four-month investigation found the youths, between the ages of 12 and 16, were involved in sending or receiving the images of minor girls, and cyberbullying.
Rabut says a community approach was developed to stop the sexual exploitation of youth by youth.
She says Mounties in Terrace worked with the school district, Terrace Minor Hockey Association, First Nations groups, victims services and youth mental health services to hold the boys accountable.
An RCMP release says most of the boys were referred to the Terrace Community Justice Forum, and some of the victims and their families also took part in that process.
Rabut says the Youth Criminal Justice Act allows for such forums and they helped provide accountability and closure for those involved.
