Karla Robison, manager of environmental and emergency services for the District of Ucluelet, scrapes away gooseneck barnacles while trying to uncover the origin of a fishing skiff that washed up on Long Beach into Tofino over the weekend. The skiff, which is marked with Japanese characters, is believed to be tsunami debris and could be carrying an invasive species or virus that could harm West Coast marine life.John Lehmann/The Globe and Mail
