B.C. Liberal Leader Christy Clark was among thousands of runners to cross the finish line of the Vancouver Sun Run, completing the 10-kilometre course in about an hour.
In her only scheduled event Sunday for the election campaign, Ms. Clark finished the race among dozens arriving at the same time as her. She was wearing a Boston Red Sox cap in solidarity with the city hit by bombs during the recent Boston Marathon.
Ms. Clark referenced a runner's T-shirt she spotted that said, "The good guys will always outnumber the bad guys."
"I really believe that," she told reporters, after taking a few moments to catch her breath. "I hope everybody in Boston is looking at runs happening all over the world and recognizing we're doing it and remembering them."
She said she had been training for the run by being on the road for about a half hour covering five kilometres in recent days during campaigning.
As she finished the run, Ms. Clark was greeted by bystanders who recognized her amongst the crowd of runners, some wishing her luck in the election campaign.
A spokesperson said this was the second time Ms. Clark had participated in the Sun Run as Liberal leader.
Earlier this week, Ms. Clark told The Globe and Mail she began running more than 10 years ago, but fell out of the habit since she was elected Liberal leader.
She returned to running last October to get in shape for the "fight of my life" in the campaign where her Liberals are running far behind the NDP in the polls.
