Finance Minister Colin Hansen says he is not giving up his seat for premier-designate Christy Clark, and is inclined to seek another term whenever the next election is held.

"I plan to continue to serve the constituents of Vancouver-Quilchena," Mr. Hansen told The Globe and Mail on Tuesday, after tweeting his plans in a bid to stamp out rumours of his departure.

There has been speculation that the Vancouver-Quilchena riding he has held since 1996 would be a good fit for Ms. Clark, who needs to find a seat she can win in a by-election in order to enter the legislature.

But Mr. Hansen said no one has officially mentioned to him the possibility of clearing out for Ms. Clark "in any way, shape or form," and he is inclined to run again for a fifth term in the riding whenever the next election is held.

"That's the plan. I will make that firm decision when I get closer to the actual launch date. [Running again]would be my intention at this point," said Mr. Hansen.

He noted that departing Premier Gordon Campbell has said he is prepared to resign in Vancouver-Point Grey, providing a seat for Ms. Clark to contest in a by-election.

Mr. Campbell says he has met with Ms. Clark but it is not clear if they have seriously discussed the matter.

If she runs there, Mr. Hansen said she could count on his support and help from his volunteers.

Despite the challenges and stresses of bringing in the harmonized sales tax that ultimately led to the end of Mr. Campbell's political career, Mr. Hansen said he has no interest in leaving politics.

"I do feel I have lots to contribute."

"If it gets to the point where I don't feel that, I'll be the first one to find the exit door, but in the meantime, I feel there is still a lot issues that need to be addressed, there are a lot of problems that need to be solved. I enjoy being part of finding those solutions."

He said he is waiting to hear Ms. Clark's cabinet choices.
