Lower Mainland residents asked for input on five Massey Tunnel options

The B.C. government has laid out five options for the George Massey Tunnel between Richmond and Delta, including upgrading the existing tunnel or building a new bridge to replace it.

The options were unveiled as the government launched the second phase of public consultations on the future of the crossing of the south arm of the Fraser River.

The other options include building a new tunnel, twinning the tunnel with a second span and building a new crossing further east of the existing tunnel.

The government is seeking the public's opinion on several issues related to the crossing, including traffic congestion, safety, the environment and social and economic impacts.

The government says the Massey Tunnel carries more than 80,000 vehicles each day and has about 10 to 15 years of useful life remaining.
