Police have arrested a 43-year-old man, hours after an RCMP detachment in the B.C. interior was attacked with a Molotov cocktail.
Early Monday morning, an officer working inside the Midway detachment heard a loud noise and saw a bright flash outside, after somone attempted to throw a Molotov cocktail inside the office. Investigating, the officer saw a man pick up a the flaming bottle and throw it at one of the detachment's three parked vehicles, setting it on fire.
The constable confronted the man, but he escaped in a nearby vehicle. The officer note of the get-away car's licence plate.
The fire, which was quickly extinguished, left very minor damage, said Staff-Sergeant Dan Seibel.
"I think the guardian angel for the RCMP helped us today," he said.
Police used the licence-plate number to make an arrest. Although the motive is still unclear, the suspect is known to the local police, said Sgt. Seibel. "So there may be some reason for that in his mind."
The suspect, whose name will be released once charges have officially been laid, is facing possible charges of arson, damage to property and mischief to private property, said Sgt. Seibel.
