The funeral procession for a young Mountie who died in a car crash last week is about to get under way in Langley.

Hundreds of Mounties in red serge, along with other uniformed emergency workers and friends and family members, are currently gathering at the Langley Event Centre to pay respects to Constable Adrian Oliver, 28.

The Mounties are scheduled to march at noon and the funeral will begin at 1 p.m.

Const. Oliver was on duty and returning to the Surrey RCMP detachment on Nov. 13 when his unmarked police car collided with a large semi-trailer truck at the intersection of 148th Street and 64th Avenue in Surrey's Newton neighbourhood.

Emergency responders freed the unconscious officer from his vehicle and transported him to hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The young Mountie came from a family of police officers. Const. Oliver's father, Chief Superintendent Joe Oliver, currently serves in Ottawa as the director-general of border integrity for the RCMP's federal and international operations, and Const. Oliver's twin brother, Ben, is a Mountie in B.C.'s Lower Mainland.

Const. Oliver is also survived by his mother and younger brother.

Surrey RCMP's Criminal Collision Investigation Team continues to investigate the cause of the crash with help from the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Team and oversight from the Vancouver police department.
