The Department of Foreign Affairs is looking into reports that a Penticton, B.C,. man was injured during a shooting in Mazatlan, Mexico this week.

Media reports identified the man as 68-year-old Mike Dilorenzo, and suggested the shooting occurred on Monday afternoon when he got in the middle of an exchange with men using AK47 weapons.

"Canadian consular officials in Mazatlan are working closely with local authorities and are providing consular assistance as required. Due to privacy concerns, not further information is available," Claude Rochon, a spokesman for foreign affairs, said in a statement.
