Snowshoeing on Grouse Mountain near Vancouver, BC.Handout

Didn't make it to last weekend's Yeti Snowshoe Series in Whistler?

The "It's too far" or "It's too crowded" excuses won't wash this weekend, when the Snowshoe Grind Mountain Run returns to Vancouver's North Shore for its 15th year.

Meant as winter's answer to the popular Grouse Grind – even snow won't get you off the hook – the 5.1-kilometre Snowshoe Grind begins near the Grouse Mountain Chalet, then traverses up a steep alpine trail through snow-laden trees to Dam Mountain before looping back to the chalet.

But take heart: Once you've conquered the icy peaks, you can warm up with hot food and drinks, and even pick up a prize if you're a leader of your particular pack.

The race is open to all ages and skill levels; snowshoe rentals are available for $5 a pop.

The Snowshoe Grind Mountain Run is at Grouse Mountain Feb. 25. For more info or to register, visit grousemountain.com.
