Two RCMP cameras packed with images of a police surveillance and photos of unrelated investigations have been found in trees in Grand Forks, B.C.
The cameras were spotted when they flashed on Dion Nordick's B.C. property, about 600 kilometres east of Vancouver.
His lawyer, Jesse Gelber, said Wednesday that images stored on the cameras' memory cards reveal that people installing the equipment in the middle of the night appear to be RCMP officers.
"They've demanded them back and Mr. Nordick has asked for an explanation of why the cameras were on property that he was in legal possession of," Mr. Gelber said.
"I don't know what the rhyme and reason of the police investigation is here," he said, adding the cameras are now in a safe place.
"They've alleged that they were on public land and our position is that they were not. And of course, if they were not on public land then there may be a trespass involved."
Mr. Gelber said police may have also entered his client's property without a warrant.
The memory cards in the cameras also contain pictures of several other possibly sensitive police investigations and Mr. Gelber said those images are not related to his client's case.
