The RCMP are investigating after a transit police officer fired at a vehicle outside the Gateway SkyTrain station in Surrey, B.C, on Sunday afternoon.

The TransLink Transit police officer discharged his service handgun at least twice at a suspect who was fleeing in a car, said Transit Police Staff Sergeant Ken Schinkel.

He said the incident occurred around 4 p.m. in a parking lot adjacent to the station, underneath the elevated tracks.

No one appeared to have been injured.

The reason for the shooting was not immediately released.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. and the major-crimes unit of the Surrey RCMP detachment will investigate the matter.
