Mounties in Prince George, B.C., say speculation is spreading surrounding the deaths of two teenagers whose bodies were pulled from a lake on Sunday.
Kendall Gabriella Moore, 17, and 19-year-old Craig Wood were killed when the SUV they were in plunged into Kwitzil Lake, also know as Gravel Pit Lake, early Sunday morning.
RCMP say they received a call at 4 a.m. about a vehicle that had gone into the lake, just off Highway 16 west of Prince George.
A search and rescue team found the 1994 GMC Jimmy, which was recovered from the water about 12 hours later.
Both youths were inside and pronounced dead at the scene.
Corporal Todd Wilson called their deaths extremely tragic.
"We will do everything we can to determine how and why this tragedy took place," he said in a news release issued Tuesday.
Mounties say rumours about the deaths have spread, including through social media, but investigations are under way to determine the facts.
Toxicology tests are being planned and the RCMP will continue to examine the SUV, which will also be mechanically checked.
RCMP are asking anyone who may have seen the incident or spoken to Ms. Moore or Mr. Wood early Sunday morning to contact them.
Mounties say photos or video may assist in the investigation.
School district Superintendent Brian Pepper said all six high schools in the city are affected by the incident because many students attended an after-graduation party near the lake on Saturday night.
Supt. Pepper said students returning to class after the long weekend are getting the support they need.
