Two people are dead after a large avalanche rolled over a group of heli-skiers in B.C.'s Bonnington Mountain range.

RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk says the snow slide took place Wednesday in the range in southeastern B.C., close to city of Nelson.

He says the guide and one of the skiers rescued themselves and then dug out the remaining three or four members of the group.

Cpl. Moskaluk says one man was confirmed dead at the scene, while a woman pulled from the snow died later in hospital.

The size of the slide was classed as a 3.5 on the avalanche scale ranging from one to five.

The deaths bring the toll to 10 people killed by avalanches in the province so far this season.
