What originally looked like a fatal traffic crash in West Kelowna, B.C., has turned out to be a double murder.

The RCMP say two people were found dead inside a black SUV that had crashed into a light pole at a condominium complex Monday night.

They say investigators have determined the deaths were homicide, and were not caused by the collision.

Police say a witness saw a man fleeing from the vehicle and a police dog tracked the suspect for several kilometres along a walking path before the trail went cold in a residential area.

No arrests have been made and the names of the victims have not yet been released.

Police are looking for information from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident.
