This is video taken from a Surrey, B.C., RCMP cruiser dashboard on the night of the fatal police shooting of Adam Purdie on March 2, 2011. The video was taken by an RCMP officer's personal camcorder, which is why there are no official time or date stamps.
The video starts in the moments after Mr. Purdie has crashed his car at the intersection of King George Boulevard and 56 Avenue around 11 p.m.
RCMP Constable Peter Neily rammed Mr. Purdie's vehicle in an attempt to prevent him from escaping, but Const. Neily's car became wedged up alongside Mr. Purdie's until the two vehicles were roughly aligned.
Const. Neily testified that he then saw Mr. Purdie aiming a rifle at him. Unable to drive forward or escape out his door, Const. Neily leaned back in his seat and fired his service pistol at Mr. Purdie. Those shots can be heard in the first 30 seconds of the video. Const. Neily fired two full magazines, 30 rounds in total.
At the 1:59 mark, Const. Neily can be heard on the radio reporting that the suspect aimed an AR-15 rifle at him. The rifle turned out to be a .22-calibre Mossberg rifle, manufactured in the style of an AR-15 assault rifle.
