Transit officials say a suspicious item that shut down Metro Vancouver's SeaBus during rush hour was actually just an old Walkman.

The main transit line was halted and its North Vancouver terminal evacuated for nearly four hours Tuesday after a potential threat was reported at about 5 p.m.

Transit Police spokeswoman Anne Drennan says a robot was sent in by the RCMP explosives unit to investigate the item found under one of the ferry's seats.

In the end, the item turned out to be no threat at all – it was a Walkman.

Drennan says the electronic music device, perhaps inadvertently left behind by a commuter, turned out to be inert but was "very suspicious looking."

The SeaBus has now resumed its normal operations.
