An Air Canada plane with 123 people on board has been forced to make an emergency landing in Winnipeg.

The aircraft, an Airbus A319, was en route from Toronto to Calgary on Wednesday when the pilot reported a hydraulic problem and diverted to Winnipeg.

The jet circled south of Winnipeg before eventually touching down safely, except for some blown tires.

Fire crews met the plane on the runway.

Passengers had to exit the aircraft there and the plane was towed away for further inspection.

The airline made other arrangements for passengers to continue their journey to Calgary.
