Former death row inmate Rubin (Hurricane) Carter will announce today that he is stepping down as a director of Canada's Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted. The former champion middleweight boxer was exonerated after he served 19 years in prison for the 1966 murder of three people in a New Jersey bar. Mr. Carter helped found the association in the early 1990s with a goal of championing wrongful-conviction cases. The group has also lobbied on behalf of other wrongly convicted persons, including David Milgaard and Guy Paul Morin.
