Cops arrest 14 for tax-evasion involving Quebec construction companies

Fourteen people have been arrested in Quebec for tax evasion as part of a crackdown on false billing in the construction industry.

Provincial police are carrying out warrants in a dozen homes and businesses today, primarily in the Montreal area.

They say the people arrested took part in false billing schemes involving different construction entrepreneurs.

The money was ultimately used to pay company employees.

Police say charges could be laid in the coming days.

Today's arrests stem from an investigation carried out in 2008; they're not being made by the same police squad investigating high-profile allegations of criminal corruption in the construction industry.

Revenue Quebec and police are taking part in the raids.
