A young Canadian graduate student whose body was found at a British recycling plant did not meet with foul play, police say.
Garrett Elsey, 22, had only been in England for a few hours when his body was discovered at a waste facility on the outskirts of Bristol on Thursday morning.
"It's not suspicious, not a homicide or anything like that," Martin Dunscombe, a spokesman for the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, said Monday.
Mr. Dunscombe said investigators have provisional findings from an autopsy but that "further investigations are needed."
Officers searched stops where garbage trucks collected bins for the waste facility and focused on an address on Jacob's Wells Road in Bristol.
Mr. Elsey, of Sherwood Park, Alta., had recently completed a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Ottawa's Carleton University, said his uncle Brent Elsey. He was set to begin a master's degree in international security in Bristol.
"It's been very, very devastating. It's a very extensive family," Brent Elsey said. "We all thought he was going to turn into something very special."
Brent Elsey said police in Britain contacted the RCMP, who notified the family. He said the unexplained circumstances of his nephew's death have made it hard on the family.
