More jobs demand B.As
Graduates with B.A. degrees are finding that they are overqualified for the jobs they get, at least immediately after university. Part of the problem may lie with the upskilling of some occupations, among them photographers, cargo and freight agents and dental hygienists. Boredom and frustration is not hard to predict if the job doesn't change to reflect the added years of education.
Canada needs to increase exchanges with Asia
Individuals who work with Asian firms or educational institutions are far more likely than the general Canadian population to believe that education is key to deepening ties to the region. From learning Asian languages to promoting Canadian universities in the area and improving faculty and student exchanges, a new study from the Asia-Pacific Institute questioned 374 people with involvement in the region and found them relatively critical of what the country is doing to get prepared for the competition.
Fair trade campus status for Guelph
The University of Guelph is now fair-trade, joining the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser. What does it take? Not that much. Serving only fair-trade coffee at non-franchise locations and offering fair-trade options for tea and chocolate. Meanwhile, universities in the United States are on a campaign against Adidas. Cornell, Rutgers and Oberlin are among the colleges that have cut ties to the company in response to student pressure.
