Elections Ontario has discovered it is missing data sticks containing information about voters in as many as 24 ridings in the province, according to a CBC report.
The memory sticks contain information including names, addresses, gender and birth dates, and may indicate whether a person voted, the broadcaster said. They went missing from the office of Ontario's chief electoral officer, Greg Essensa. Mr. Essensa wrote a letter to party leaders saying the memory sticks had gone missing. He added that the information on them was encrypted, the CBC said.
Elections Ontario issued a press release Monday saying Mr. Essensa will make an announcement at Queen's Park on Tuesday morning. The elections body could not be reached late on Monday night for comment.
The Ontario Provincial Police and Ontario's privacy commissioner are investigating the breach, the CBC said.
