3Theatre

Who could have guessed that the same merry mind that brought us Sweeney Todd and Do I Hear a Waltz? - Stephen Sondheim - is also responsible for what has been called "the most controversial musical of all time." Assassins examines the tortured minds of the killers and would-be killers of American presidents - Lee Harvey Oswald, John Wilkes Booth and the gang - and it's being presented by Birdland Theatre. (Today, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Theatre Centre, 1087 Queen St. W. $33)

4Indie Crafts

In the market for a hand-knit elf hat? Thinking of buying your sweetie an ironic Valentine card lovingly made by an actual Parkdale hipster? How about some kiln-fired shot glasses? All these cooler-than-you'd-expect indie crafts and more are being hawked at the Love and Rummage Trunk Show, which is being held - where else? - on Queen West. (Tomorrow, 12 p.m.-5 p.m. The Workroom, 1340 Queen St. W. Free.)

5Art

The art collective known as Drawnonward has elicited numerous comparisons to the Group of Seven - and for good reason. They are, themselves, a group of seven and they seem to have a knack for capturing the boreal sublime on canvas - all of which means anyone looking for a soul-stirring view of Greenland, Newfoundland and Labrador need head no further than the Distillery District. (Until Feb. 21. Engine Gallery, 37 Mill St., Bldg. 37. Free.)
