RCMP in Nova Scotia say a plane bound for England was forced to land in Halifax today because of an unruly passenger.

Cpl. Scott MacRae says officers received a call around 4:20 a.m. about an incident on board Air Canada Flight 854, which was travelling from Vancouver to London's Heathrow Airport.

MacRae says witnesses told police that a 51-year-old man on the flight left his seat and was throwing water on passengers and crew members.

He says the man is also accused of uttering threats to the flight staff and refusing to return to his seat.

The man was sent to a Halifax hospital for a mental health assessment.

The flight later continued its journey and police are still investigating.
