The Ottawa-area daycare that was the scene of a murder-suicide earlier this month has reopened.

The Montessori School in Gatineau, Que., across the river from downtown Ottawa, had been closed since the terrifying incident on April 5.

Police say Robert Charron, 49, entered the daycare and shot and killed staff member Neil Galliou, 38, before trying to set a fire and then committing suicide.

None of the children were harmed.

Police say Charron was the estranged husband of the daycare director, who had ended their relationship only days before.

She has been on leave since the incident.

Parents and children were invited back to the school earlier this week to go on a walk-through and meet some of the new staff.

Since the shooting, the 53 children have been going to other daycares in the region.
