Water-logged Prairie farmers and ranchers are to receive $448 million to help deal with devastating flood damage.
The federal and three provincial governments say farmers will get $30 an acre for land that couldn't be seeded by June 20 or which was seeded but then flooded by the end of July.
Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz made the announcement in southeast Saskatchewan, which was hit hard by flooding from the spring melt and then heavy rain.
Mr. Ritz says 5.6 million hectares may be affected across the Prairies.
Livestock producers can also apply for help to cover added costs such as renting pasture and transporting feed or livestock.
Last year, the federal and provincial governments pumped an additional $450 million into the AgriRecovery program to help farmers cope with one of the wettest seasons in recent memory.
