A fatality inquiry is to begin today into the death of an Alberta woman who called 911 but didn't receive any help.

Brenda Moreside called the emergency number in February 2005 asking police for help because her drunken boyfriend was breaking into their home in northern Alberta.

She was told the man couldn't be charged with breaking into his own residence, and officers didn't respond.

She was stabbed to death, but police didn't find her body until 12 days later.

Mounties apologized at the time and admitted an error had been made.

The inquiry is expected to hear from 10 witnesses and is scheduled to conclude on Friday.
