Lotto winners crime target, Montreal police say

Police have arrested a man who allegedly plotted to kidnap and kill two new lottery millionaires.

Montreal police say Edwin Mata Lima, an 18-year-old who is originally from Mexico, allegedly targeted Zenovij Pacholuk and his wife Dolores Coffey, who recently won $27-million.

Mata Lima was arraigned in Montreal on Tuesday on conspiracy charges involving murder, extortion and kidnapping.

Police were tipped off about the alleged plan last week and followed a suspect as he attempted to procure weapons.

Loto-Quebec and the two new millionaires refused to comment.
