Three weeks after being denied any parole by the National Parole Board, a man who confessed to killing six members of a B.C. family will be allowed out of prison for four hours on an escorted pass, a family member of the victims said yesterday.

Shelley Boden said she was informed by a Corrections Canada official that David Ennis will leave Bowden Institution for four hours tomorrow.

Mr. Ennis was a 23-year-old Clearwater man, then known as David Shearing, when he murdered the six people, who were camping in the woods near his home.

He was sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility for parole for 25 years. The 25-year period expires on Nov. 19. However, at a parole hearing on Oct. 22, a three-member panel denied Mr. Ennis's request for day or full parole.

Ms. Boden said she was shocked to get the call about the escorted day pass.

Her aunt, uncle and two cousins were shot to death by Ennis. "It hasn't even been a month [since the parole hearing] I don't want him out," she said. "I'm not impressed."
