A Nova Scotia woman was taken to hospital for a medical assessment after police say she scaled a barbed-wire fence and ran onto the tarmac of Halifax's airport.

RCMP say the 37-year old woman apparently believed her partner was on an aircraft and was trying to stop it from taking off Sunday morning.

Sergeant Al LeBlanc says she was on the tarmac for only a few minutes before she was apprehended. He says the woman's partner was not on any plane.

LeBlanc adds he's never seen anything like it in all his many years of policing.

No charges are expected.
