Provincial police say a man is dead and two other people remain in hospital after a head-on crash on a highway south of Sudbury.

The collision happened Sunday at about 3:30 p.m. on Highway 69.

Investigators say a northbound vehicle crossed the centre line into the southbound lane, striking a minivan, then continued northbound in the southbound lane before colliding head on with an SUV.

Russell Galbraith, 29, of Sudbury, who was driving the northbound vehicle, was transported to hospital where police say he died of his injuries.

The driver and passenger of the SUV were also taken to hospital where they were listed in serious but stable condition.

The highway was closed for about six hours while police investigated but it has since been reopened.
