Police say four children, including an infant, were in a Saskatoon home when a 34-year-old woman was fatally shot.

They also say it was the woman's teenage children who called 911.

The woman was shot at a home on Peterson Terrace around 6:20 a.m., Wednesday morning. Police are investigating it as a homicide.

Police say one other adult – beside the four children and the victim – was in the home at the time.

"We are still very early into our investigation," said media relations officer Alyson Edwards. "There were other people present in the home at the time of the shooting and we want to speak to them and any neighbours who may have seen or heard anything."

Police say they have no suspects at the moment but are following up on a number of leads. The woman's name is not being released by police until more family members are notified.

Ms. Edwards said witnesses say they heard multiple shots, but could not confirm if they all occured inside the home.

For friends and neighbours, the news comes as a shock.

"There's a whole family there, very nice family, very engaged in the community," said Cary Tarasoff, who was sleeping on top of his motorhome across the street from where the shooting took place.

"When you're out shoveling snow all the kids come out and help, it's nice. So we're quite shocked, but these things are always personal."

Other neighbours reported hearing up to six gun shots, but police say the woman died of a single gun shot wound.
