Prince Charles will visit three provinces during a short tour of Canada next month.

The heir to the throne will be accompanied by his wife, Camilla, who will have her first visit with a regiment for which she acts as Colonel-in-Chief.

The couple last came to Canada in 2009 and this is the fourth tour in the last four years by members of the royal family.

The visit will take place from May 20 to 23 and Charles and Camilla will make stops in New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan. An itinerary released Monday by Clarence House revealed that the visit would include time in Toronto for "a traditional Victoria Day fireworks celebration over Lake Ontario."

The long weekend of their visit celebrates the birth of Charles' great-great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria.

The Canadian visit is the first of a series of "tours of Realms" intended to celebrate Queen's Elizabeth's 60-year reign. Among his activities in Canada, Charles will conduct investitures of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medals.

"Occasions such as this are rare," James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, said in a statement. "The only other time Canada celebrated the diamond jubilee of a reigning king or queen was for Queen Victoria in 1897. We welcome the royal couple and look forward to showing them some of the best of what Canada has to offer."

The short tour includes five events offering the public the chance to see the couple.

The visit will begin at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown in New Brunswick, where Clarence House notes that Charles served in the 1970s. There will also be a public festival in Saint John before they transfer to Toronto.

In Toronto, Charles will meet with native leaders from across the country and CEOs connected with one of his charity programs. Also in Toronto, Camilla will pay her first visit to The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada of which she has recently become Colonel-in-Chief. They will appear publicly at Queen's Park.

The tour will conclude in Regina, where the events include celebrating the centenary of the Legislative Building and attending a concert of the Regina Symphony Orchestra, which counts Charles as Royal Patron. There are two chances in Saskatchewan for the public to see them.
