A baby is dead following a crash on Monday evening near Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., northeast of Montreal.

Provincial police spokeswoman Melanie Dumaresq says a heavy vehicle collided with a car that was on a highway shoulder.

Dumaresq says the baby, who was under the age of one, and two adults were inside the car while a third adult was outside the vehicle.

The baby died at a hospital in Saint-Hyacinthe.

The other three adults suffered minor injuries and the driver of the heavy vehicle was uninjured.

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the crash.
