Children wearing Sikh turbans will continue to be banned from organized Quebec soccer matches after the province's soccer federation voted to maintain its ban on the religious head covering.
The Quebec Soccer Federation's board of directors decided after an emergency meeting Tuesday night to stick to its prohibition for now despite the group's suspension by the Canadian Soccer Association over the no-turban rule.
The Quebec body says it will "try everything in order to re-establish dialogue" with its Canadian counterpart to find a resolution to the conflict, which could keep thousands of Quebec children from taking part in tournaments with teams outside the province.

"We hope for a settlement as quickly as possible in order to find a way out of the impasse," the Quebec group said in a statement.
The group would make no comment, and says it has not given itself a deadline to reach an agreement.
