The former president of Toronto's East General Hospital will take over scandal-plagued eHealth Ontario, at least temporarily.
EHealth's board of directors has appointed Robert Devitt as the new interim president and chief executive officer of the provincial agency.
Former eHealth CEO Sarah Kramer, and former board chair Dr. Alan Hudson both resigned in June after reports the agency gave out $5-million in untendered consulting contracts.
That figure has since grown to about $16-million, with the opposition claiming the largest contracts went to consultants with ties to the Liberal government.
EHealth was set up last year to create electronic health records after the first agency given that task spent $650-million and failed to produce anything of real value.
Mr. Devitt's appointment will end on December 31, and in the meantime, eHealth's board will search for a permanent CEO.
Ron Sapsford, who had been acting CEO eHealth since Kramer's resignation, will return to his role as a deputy minister of Health.
