An Alberta teen accused of having unprotected sex while not informing her partners she has HIV will be kept in custody for now.

The 17-year-old, who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, made an appearance Tuesday in an Edmonton court, where her case was put over to Aug. 16.

The teen faces two counts of aggravated sexual assault and police say additional charges are pending.

Police who were looking for the girl got permission from the courts last week to warn the public about her, alleging she posed a significant risk to the community.

They said they took the step after receiving complaints from two males — another complainant came forward after the warning.

RCMP officers took the teen into custody in the town of Edson, Alta., on the weekend.
