Environment Canada has new thunderstorm warnings for parts of central Canada already sweltering under a week-long heat wave, but the good news is that relief appears to be in sight as the weekend approaches.

Earlier Friday, Environment Canada issued a tornado watch in Parry Sound, and thunderstorm watches for much of Ontario, including Toronto, London, Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury. Temperatures in Toronto, meanwhile, are expected to hit as high as 35 degrees Friday. But the heat wave appears to be on its last breath, dropping to the high 20s for Saturday, and about 23 degrees on Sunday in the Greater Toronto Area.

Meanwhile in Quebec, Environment Canada has issued both severe thunderstorm watches and high heat and humidity warnings for Friday in Montreal, Troise-Rivieres and Sherbrooke. Temperatures in all three of those cities are expected to drop from about the low 30s Friday to the low and mid-20s by Saturday.

Temperatures for the rest of the country, meanwhile, remain slightly above normal:

British Columbia

Vancouver and Victoria can expect sunshine for the rest of Friday and into the weekend, with temperatures expected to hover in the mid-20s, just slightly above normal for this time of the year.

Saskatoon

Both Regina and Saskatoon can expect a rainy, cloudy weekend with temperatures in the low-to-mid-20s, and the risk of thunderstorms Friday evening. Temperatures are expected to drop in Regina to as low as 18 degrees Saturday.

Alberta

Calgary and Edmonton both face the risk of thunderstorms Friday and into Saturday, and showers throughout the weekend. Temperatures are around normal for this time of the year, with highs in the mid-20s throughout the weekend.

Manitoba

Winnipeg is expected to have a sunny, clear weekend with cooler-than-normal temperatures peaking at about 25 degrees on Sunday.

Atlantic

Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton face showers and the risk of thunderstorms both Friday and Saturday.

Halifax, meanwhile, is expecting showers throughout the weekend, and higher-than-normal temperatures peaking on Saturday, with a high expected of 31 degrees.

In St. John's, temperatures will be around normal Friday and into the weekend, in the low 20s and a mix of sun and showers.

Yukon

Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 12 degrees in Whitehorse on Sunday, and rain expected for much of the weekend.
