The list of Canadians to be invested with one of the country's highest civilian honours, announced Thursday by Governor-General David Johnston, also includes former B.C. senator Pat Carney, once the international trade minister involved in negotiating the Canada-U.S. free-trade agreement.
War Child Canada co-founder Samantha Nutt will be honoured as a member for her focus on assisting war-affected women and children. And Mi'kmaq leader Viola Robinson, a former president of the Native Council of Canada and member of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, is to be an officer from Nova Scotia.
Writers Malcolm Gladwell and Nino Ricci both received a nod, as did media personality Bob McDonald, a science journalist and host of the CBC program Quirks & Quarks, and Brett Wilson, the entrepreneur and philanthropist who appears on the popular television show Dragon's Den.
Toronto-based actor Eugene Levy, known for his decades of comedic work, will also be made a member.
The new officers and members join more than 5,000 people already invested over more than 40 years, though this latest class contains fewer appointees than the 74 named last June - and no one was named a Companion of the Order of Canada, the highest degree of recognition.
The date of the ceremony where new recipients will receive their insignia has yet to be announced.
