Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith has named herself as critic responsible for the interests of Calgary and Edmonton in the legislature.

The Opposition leader revealed her shadow cabinet in Edmonton today.

The failure to break through in Alberta's two largest cities is one of the reasons the Wildrose finds itself on the opposition benches.

Smith's party led in public opinion surveys during the recent provincial election campaign, but ended up winning 17 of 87 seats — just two in Calgary and none in Edmonton.

Newly elected Wildrose member Gary Bikman suggested in the days after the election that rural voters had more common sense than urban voters.

Smith used the term "urban elites" in a television interview this week while talking about a campaign video that urged people to vote Progressive Conservative to keep the Wildrose out of government.
