Another Alberta Tory appears poised to enter the Progressive Conservative leadership race.

Former Calgary city councillor Ric McIver has resigned his cabinet post as minister of Infrastructure and Transportation.

He's called a news conference for Wednesday in Calgary.

McIver has been one of the cabinet ministers considering entering the race.

Former Municipal Affairs minister Ken Hughes has already declared he is running, while former Calgary MP Jim Prentice has a campaign team in place and is raising funds.

The race officially begins May 15.
