The Conservative Party of Canada has rescheduled their biennial policy convention in Calgary for Halloween weekend.

The convention was originally set to take place the last weekend of June, after Parliament rose for the summer, until flooding devastated the host city of Calgary and parts of southern Alberta.

The Conservatives announced Friday they would hold their convention from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.

"This decision reaffirms our commitment to Calgary – a great Canadian city that has shown tremendous courage in the face of the Alberta floods," said party president John Walsh in a statement. "We have been working closely with the authorities and local businesses in Calgary to find the adequate space, despite the understandable difficulties with such a short time frame."

The convention will feature a speech by the Prime Minister and debates on party policy.

The convention was seen as an opportunity for Prime Minister Stephen Harper to reconnect with the rank-and-file of a party rocked this spring by a Senate expenses scandal.

Mr. Harper will use an upcoming cabinet shuffle – expected any day now – to set up the team he will go into the 2015 election with. Five ministers have already resigned or signalled they're on their way out, while a dozen or more other portfolios could change hands.
