A Progressive Conservative government would lower the ratio of journeymen to apprentices in Ontario, Tim Hudak said Tuesday.
The Tory leader said his plan would create 200,000 new apprenticeships in the province over the next four years – a change he said is needed to keep skilled workers in Ontario.
"They just look around and they say, I can't get a position here because of these apprenticeship ratios," Mr. Hudak said at a campaign stop in Cornwall. "I want to see that young talent actually [stay] here, in the province of Ontario, getting a good job."
Mr. Hudak said he would reduce the ratio of journeymen to apprentices to 1:1.
The change is part of a Progressive Conservative jobs plan that also offers relief on hydro bills and corporate taxes but nothing that will directly create jobs and no specific tax reductions for small businesses.
