Claudio the Soup Guy, who serves food to politicians, journalists and the public near Parliament Hill in Ottawa.Steven Chase/The Globe and Mail

You know you've arrived in Ottawa when Claudio the Soup Guy designs a special broth in your name. (Watch a video of Claudio and his soup)

Located about a block from Parliament Hill, Claudio Fracassi serves hundreds of bowls of soup each week to bureacrats, politicians and journalists.

He's cooked up a new hybrid recipe for the New Democrat chief. It's called Thomas Mulcair Creamy Onion-Mushroom.

The soup's a compromise. Mr. Mulcair's staff said his favourite soup was French Onion.

But Claudio thought that didn't sound Canadian enough. So he advised Mr. Mulcair and his staff to dig deeper for a second choice. They suggested cream of mushroom soup and presto, a new hybrid mix was born.

Mr. Mulcair's just the latest in a long line of leaders who've been honoured by the Soup Guy.

Claudio doesn't play party favourites. Everybody from Barack Obama to Stephen Harper to Green Party Leader Elizabeth May gets a special broth.

Mr. Harper's, by the way, is Chili Soup with Chicken.

What's next? Well, there may be a soup for a certain schoolteacher from Quebec if he plays his cards right.

Justin Trudeau is going to seek the Liberal Party Leadership, after all.

Claudio says he figures he has to start working on a Trudeau soup.
