Michael Ignatieff, the Liberal leader, is campaigning in the GTA Saturday, attending a barbecue in the Vaughan riding that the Liberals lost in a by-election to Julian Fantino last November. It was a real blow to the Grits, who had held that riding since 1988.

The Liberals are hoping to win it back from Mr. Fantino, the Minister of State for Seniors.

Later in the day, Mr. Ignatieff will be in Scarborough-Rouge River, Liberal candidate Rana Sarkar, for a rally with local candidates including veteran MP Dan McTeague of neighbouring Pickering-Scarborough East.

Mr. Ignatieff then flies back to Ottawa, and is back on the road Sunday for Kingston, Ont.



NDP Leader Jack Layton is in Saskatoon on Saturday morning, a city of four Conservative ridings where the New Democrats are making a play for Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar and Saskatoon Humboldt.

Although it is a province where the NDP has no seats, it is also a place where they are perpetually competitive.

Mr. Layton will hold a late-morning rally at ballroom in a downtown hotel.

In the afternoon, he flies off to La Ronge in northern Saskatchewan where the NDP candidate in Lawrence Joseph, the former chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.

Although the riding of Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River has recently be held by Conservatives, and Liberals before that, as recently as 1997 it was won by the NDP.

Stephen Harper begins Saturday in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. He is attending a volleyball tournament, in which his son Ben is playing.

In the late afternoon he flies to the Montreal area and will overnight in St.-Hyacinthe, Que., east of the province's biggest city.

Mr. Harper will spend Sunday campaigning in Quebec, his final day of the tour before throttling down to prepare for the April 12 and April 14 leader's debates.



Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe is finishing up a two-day tour on Saturday of the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, including two ridings currently held by the Conservative Party. He will tour a farm, have a lunch with party supporters and meet with mayors affected by the closure of a saw-mill.
