I am beginning to feel like a tortured blogger locked in my basement, free of daylight and fresh air. If I don't get help soon I may have to start a Facebook group to liberate me from my anti-democratic, subterranean prison.

Today, Michael Ignatieff held a press conference to fulminate about prorogation. Welcome to the parade Mr. Ignatieff. Standing in front of Parliament, Iggy unleashed all manner of invective his formidable intellect could summon. He was performing as a Leader of the Opposition should.

One thing was missing from today's news event though. Neither Mr. Ignatieff nor his media interrogators elicited or sought to discover how Mr. Ignatieff would use the power of prorogation. It is a missing piece in an important debate.

If Canadians are not happy with how the Harper government has used prorogation, shouldn't they expect to get some answers from Mr. Ignatieff on what he might do? It is one thing to simply pile on for the sake of piling on. It is quite another to get a sense of what sets the Liberal Leader, or NDP leader for that matter, apart from the Prime Minister on this issue. If you are upset about how one person does something, should you not inquire as to how another would operate?

Maybe we are all learning more about Parliamentary procedure through this public dialogue. That can be a good thing. Equally pleasing to me would be to have someone from the Liberal Party tell me where they stand on how Parliament should operate.

Don't make me start a Facebook group! I know I can get more than the 300,000 people who want John Cougar Mellencamp to quit smoking.
